The curriculum at Holy Cross Lutheran School consists of the
recognized and standard courses taught in elementary school and
observes the state’s essential elements in subject matter and
instructional time.
The textbook publishers selected to support our high quality of
education include Harcourt, Saxon Math, Zaner-Bloser, Voyages (Bible),
and Wright. The Shurley Method of Grammar, Accelerated Reader and the D’Nealian
style of handwriting are taught.
Our students study the Bible, reading, English, spelling,
handwriting, math, science, social studies and history. All
students attend music, choir, PE, art, library and computer
classes each week. Students in Kindergarten and one through six
also attend Spanish class once a week.
Physical Education
Objectives include developing gross motor skills, increasing fitness
through exercise and games, and developing attitudes of good sportsmanship.
Spanish
Students develop language skills while exploring the history and
culture of Spanish-speaking peoples.
Art
Students learn about the elements of art, study the works of great
artists, and explore their own creativity using a variety of media.
Music/Choir
Students learn concepts of theory and develop an appreciation of music
through singing and playing rhythm instruments. Students are given an
opportunity to perform at the school’s annual Christmas program and
spring concert.
Computer
Computer classes support the classroom curricula, develop keyboarding and
word processing skills, and provide instruction in office applications
such as Word and Power Point.
Chapel
Students and faculty gather for worship at our weekly Wednesday morning
chapel services. Chapel Buddies and offerings collected for a variety of
ministries are important parts of our chapel worship.
